Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park
2026 National Park Drive

Rocky Mountain National Park from Denver

Plan your drive, timed entry and vehicle before heading from Denver to one of Colorado's most visited mountain destinations.

2026 Timed Entry

Know Which Reservation You Need

For 2026, Rocky Mountain National Park uses two timed-entry options during peak season: a general Timed Entry reservation that excludes Bear Lake Road, and Timed Entry plus Bear Lake Road. The required hours and season differ, so check the National Park Service before your visit.

Timed Entry

General Park Access

For 2026, general timed entry is required during specified daytime hours from late May into October. It covers most of the park but excludes the Bear Lake Road Corridor.

Bear Lake

Separate Access Option

If Bear Lake, Glacier Gorge, Moraine Park or other Bear Lake Road destinations are central to your plan, review the Timed Entry plus Bear Lake Road option and its longer daily reservation window.

Mountain Conditions

Prepare for Rapid Changes

Altitude and mountain weather can change conditions quickly. Check official park road status and weather before leaving Denver, particularly when your itinerary includes higher elevations.

Vehicle Planning

Choose a Car That Fits the Trip

For a Denver-to-Rocky road trip, consider passenger space, luggage, weather and season. AWD may be useful when winter conditions are part of the itinerary, while many fair-weather visits can be handled by other suitable vehicles.
